Anti-gravity also known as non-gravitational field is a hypothetical phenomenon of creating a place or object that is free from the force of gravity.
It does not refer to the lack of weight under gravity experienced in free fall or orbitor to balancing the force of gravity with some other force, such as electromagnetism or aerodynamic lift.
Anti-gravity is a recurring concept in science fiction, particularly in the context of spacecraft propulsion. Examples are the gravity blocking substance "Cavorite" in H. The possibility of creating anti-gravity depends upon the detection and description of gravity at the quantum dimension; as of physicists have yet to discover the quantum nature of gravity. It is claimed the US Air Force also ran a study effort throughout the s and into the s.
However, there is little outside confirmation of these stories, and since they take place in the midst of the policy by press release era, it is not clear how much weight these stories should be given.
It is known that there were serious efforts underway at the Glenn L. Martin Company. Military support for anti-gravity projects was terminated by the Mansfield Amendment ofwhich restricted Department of Defense spending to only the areas of scientific research with explicit military applications.
The Mansfield Amendment was passed specifically to end long-running projects that had little to show for their efforts. Innoted aviation journalist Nick Cook's research into supposed Nazi antigravity research failed to win over critics. You might be starting to see why "antigravity" is a taboo subject. NASA even published a booklet titled "Responding to Mechanical Antigravity" to help amateur and professional researchers, most of whom submitted ideas as many as per year involving machines that falsely appeared to create an antigravity effect.
And just in case you're wondering, NASA's zero-gravity flights aboard modified C-9 aircraft are not examples of antigravity.
Neither is the levitation effect achieved in by countering Casimir force, a quantum force that essentially causes objects to stick to one another -- a type of nanofriction [source: ScienceDaily ]. Many TV shows have shown people trying to build pyramid like structures or stone structures with the tools they suspect the Ancient Egyptians used. However in all these TV shows they all failed to move these very heavy stones using ropes, pulleys, or logs, whatever the technique they used they failed.
They would have us believe that it took 40 years to build the Great Pyramid. I don't know about you but I have never heard of any construction project in modern times taking that long to build. If the Ancient Egyptians were smart enough to create their own pictorial language, I doubt they were so slow minded as to build a structure for 40 years just to bury someone in it.
It just doesn't make any sense at all if you truly think about it. These pyramids had some other purpose, what that purpose was is still unknown, many theories have been put forth, some day we might know for sure.
Let's suppose for a little while that these ancient people had anti-gravity technology to transport the stones. That would make the entire process a whole lot simpler. The stones would be weightless and easily moved up or down or side to side.

Eternal life and human flight are the products of great technology and advancement. The Egyptians also had a very efficient and complex way of mummifying their dead.
How did they learn this? Modern Day Egyptians don't even know how to do this. What was their purpose of doing this? Perhaps they actually had knowledge of what happens after death. Perhaps they actually did build wings and used them for human flight, if a human were weightless and fitted with a paid of well-build wings they could actually fly like birds with great ease. Look at the next picture of another Ancient civilization that also portrayed wings on the backs of their people.
Not only does this Sumerian figure have wings, he also seems to have extraordinarily well groomed clothes with fancy embroidered patterns. He also has a fancy type of hat. This person obviously looks very smart and well groomed, much more sophisticated then historians would have us believe. He also has a bracelet which looks very much like a modern day watch. Who knows what that actually is. It just might be a high tech anti-gravity device to render it's user weightless. I myself have a massive amount of research done on this topic. I'm making "steady progress" and i hope to be able to report my science findings some time in the next 12 months or so.
Maybe sooner! John in Ireland. Not possible. Technology is advancing quickly. But I am not seeing a future for anti-gravity. I'm sure in time someone will figure out what a gravity wave looks like, and can replicate it - once that happens the possiblity of some sort of 'anti-gravity' will be possible. What I mean is that although there are gravitational effects that hold our galazy together it would still feel like Zero gravity to our space ship. We would essentially be in Zero G just like our astronauts. There is still mass however and that is what will inhibit our acceleration to near light speed.
Once we have broken the bonds of earth's gravity we would be on our way. We could use the gravity of the massive planets to accelerate our space craft for a free boost in velocity. We really don't want anti-gravity we want anti mass or anti-matter for tremendous energy propulsion from a small amount of fuel. The problem would be to make anti-matter and then figure out how to store it and throttle it's release of energy.
Probably not for a long long time. Once we are free of the earth, accelerating at one G will give us fabulous velocity after a year or so. Of course I have ignored relativistic effects and the cosmic speed limit.
But just figure out how to achieve a constant one G acceleration and in 6 months you will be zipping right along at an appreciable portion of the speed of light. In ten years or so earth time you could be to our nearest star. Would you like to volunteer Johnny? We will find gravity waves as soon as we put our interferometer out in space and give it a huge baseline.
Detecting the wave will not be the same as trying to harness it. It would be like a magnet anyway; the push you would get from like poles would have to be earned by equivalent energy to place the magnets close together in the first place.

If you could commutate the magnetic field then you would have something. What I mean is: let two magnets pull themselves together and then switch the field and have them repel and then figure out how to rectify this back and forth efect to provide propulsion. An electric motor sort of does this --too bad the losses in switching and magnetizing keep this from even being exactly close to unity efficiency.
